Perimenopause and Menopause
Perimenopause and Menopause
As women transition into menopause, declining estrogen levels can lead to changes that affect the body in many ways—often similar to those experienced in the postpartum period. This hormonal shift can impact tissue elasticity and muscle function, contributing to bladder, bowel, or sexual symptoms that respond well to pelvic floor physical therapy.
At Sakura Pelvic Health, we believe that understanding these changes is empowering. When women recognize what their bodies are experiencing, they can make informed choices to enhance their quality of life. Many women are surprised by the range of symptoms that may appear during this phase, including:
Hot flashes
Brain fog
Joint aches and pains
Sleep disturbances
Decreased libido
Vaginal dryness
Painful intercourse
Urinary incontinence
Mood changes
Without guidance, these symptoms can feel confusing or overwhelming. We are passionate about helping women understand the why behind what they’re feeling and connecting them to the care they need to thrive.
Pelvic floor therapy can be especially beneficial during this transition. We assess the pelvic floor muscles and design an individualized treatment plan to improve strength, mobility, and comfort while offering education and support to help you care for yourself through menopause and beyond.
Heart Health:
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women. The risk increases during the perimenopausal and menopausal transition due to hormonal changes. However, with the right education and preventive strategies, women can take control of their heart health and significantly reduce this risk.
Bone Health:
Bone density naturally begins to decline in a woman’s 30s and accelerates during perimenopause and menopause as estrogen levels fall. According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis affects 1 in 3 women. Awareness and proactive care during this stage are key to reducing the risk of fractures and maintaining long-term strength.
At Sakura Pelvic Health, our therapist is highly trained in hormonal health and women’s wellness. We’re dedicated to empowering women with the knowledge and tools they need to age with confidence and quality of life.
