Sexual Pain and Dysfunction

Pain during sex, discomfort with penetration, or a feeling that something just isn't right. These concerns are more common than most people think, and they can affect every part of your life, your confidence, your relationships, and how you feel in your own body.

A lot of people deal with sexual pain or dysfunction for a long time before bringing it up to a provider. Some have been told it's normal, or that it's "in their head," or that they should just relax. That's not the kind of answer you deserve.

Pain during sexual activity can come from a lot of different sources: pelvic floor muscles that are too tight or not coordinating well, scar tissue from a delivery or surgery, nerve irritation, tightness in the hips or low back, or hormonal changes related to postpartum life or perimenopause. Often it's a combination. And because these factors overlap, figuring out what's driving the problem takes a thorough assessment of how your whole body is working, not just the area where you feel pain.

We talk about these concerns with the same calm, straightforward care we bring to everything else we treat. There's nothing to feel embarrassed about here. We want you to be able to enjoy this part of your life comfortably and confidently. Sakura Pelvic Health is located in St. Paul, and we see patients from throughout the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro, including Mac-Groveland, Summit Hill, Merriam Park, Roseville, Mendota Heights, Eagan, Edina, and beyond. If you've been looking for a provider who will take this seriously and talk about it openly, we're here.
