When your child is having regular accidents at school, avoiding sleepovers, or feeling embarrassed about something they can't control, it's stressful for the whole family. A lot of parents aren't sure when it's something to worry about or where to go for help.

Sakura Pelvic Health is located in St. Paul and provides pediatric pelvic floor physical therapy for children throughout the Twin Cities, including Minneapolis, Mac-Groveland, Como Park, Merriam Park, Roseville, West St. Paul, Mendota Heights, Eagan, and Edina.

If your child is dealing with any of the following, pediatric pelvic floor physical therapy can help:

  • Daytime wetting that's affecting school, friendships, or confidence

  • Leaking during jumping, laughing, or running

  • Bowel accidents or smearing

  • Constipation or straining with bowel movements

  • Urinary urgency, frequency, or feeling like they can't fully empty

  • Bedwetting that's disrupting sleep or daily life

Just like adults, kids have pelvic floor muscles that play an important role in bladder and bowel function. Sometimes those muscles aren't coordinating well, or a child hasn't yet developed a strong sense of what their body is telling them. Both of those things can be worked on with the right support.

What sessions look like

Sessions are gentle, playful, and designed around your child's comfort level. Children stay fully clothed, so comfortable, flexible clothing works best. We use age-appropriate activities to help your child build body awareness, learn how their bladder and bowel work, recognize when their body is sending signals, and develop habits that support better function.

We also work closely with parents. That includes looking at things like fluid and fiber intake, bathroom habits, and positioning, and making small, manageable changes that support progress at home.

The goal is for your child to feel more comfortable and more confident, and for you to feel like you understand what's going on and what to do about it.
