Pregnancy and Birth Preparation
Pelvic health physical therapy isn't only for after the baby arrives. Whether you're trying to conceive or navigating the changes that come with pregnancy, this is a good time to start working with us.
At Sakura Pelvic Health in St. Paul, we work with patients from across the Twin Cities — including Minneapolis, Mac-Groveland, Merriam Park, Como Park, Summit Hill, Roseville, Mendota Heights, Eagan, and Edina — at every stage of the journey to and through motherhood.
During Pregnancy
Pregnancy changes the way your entire body works, how you breathe, how you move, how your muscles and joints handle load. Some of those changes bring real discomfort: pelvic pain, low back pain, sciatica, pubic pain, round ligament pain, pressure, leaking, or constipation.
You don't have to wait until something hurts to come in. Many of our clients start during pregnancy to build strength, learn how their body is adapting, and prepare for labor and delivery. We can teach you perineal massage, explore labor positions that work for your body, and help you feel physically ready for birth and recovery.
Trying to Conceive
If you're working toward pregnancy, pelvic health physical therapy can be a meaningful part of that process. Roughly 1 in 7 couples experience difficulty getting pregnant, and when we look at the factors involved, mechanical issues like adhesions and tissue restrictions in the pelvis are thought to play a role in 30 to 50 percent of cases.
Adhesions can develop after pelvic surgery, but they also show up alongside conditions like endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and chronic pelvic pain. When these restrictions affect the mobility of the uterus, cervix, ovaries, or fallopian tubes, they can interfere with the mechanics your body relies on for conception.
We use specific manual therapy techniques to restore tissue mobility in the pelvis and improve how the reproductive organs move and function. Research on these approaches has shown promising results, and the work makes sense when you think about it: when the structures involved in conception can move freely and have good blood flow, your body has a better environment for pregnancy to happen.
Wherever You Are
Whether you're trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or dealing with pain right now, we'll build a plan around where you are and what your body needs. If you're in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area and looking for a pelvic PT who will take the time to understand your full picture, we'd love to connect.
